Morjes!

Welcome to my blog. I write about fitting in, sticking out, and missing the motherland as a serial foreigner.

Books 2023 + Book Stats

Books 2023 + Book Stats

I read 50 books again this year, the exact number I read last year, too!.

The books I read this year were mostly fiction (64 percent). This is a bit lower than last year but that year was an outlier.

The books I read this year were overwhelmingly Adult (82 percent), first-time reads (80 percent). There were four books this year that I read enough of (say, more than a third) to count but ultimately did not finish them: Hunting the Falcon (disappointing), A River Enchanted (loan ran out), Mexican Gothic (too scary!), and Facing the Mountain (just couldn’t get into it).

A category I started keeping track of two years ago is Romance, and this year once again a very precise 26% of the books I read belonged to that category.

Sixty-eight percent of the books I read this year were on the Kindle app on my phone, mostly borrowed from the library (96%, whether Kindle or hard copy).

Below you can see how the reading distribution shook out this year (the date is the day I finished a book).
