Morjes!

Welcome to my blog. I write about fitting in, sticking out, and missing the motherland as a serial foreigner.

Christmas carols from Syria

Here are some Christmas songs we used to listen to in Syria. They're sung by Fairouz, a Lebanese singer who is wildly famous in the Arab world. When I listen to these songs, I remember a cold Damascus winter and going to see lights in the Christian Quarter of the Old City. I wish I knew more about the background of the Arabic and Syriac songs. I just know that they are lovely. Why aren't there more sad Christmas carols in English?

First, "Go Tell it on the Mountain." I never knew I needed to love this song in Arabic, but I do!

Here is "Snow, snow" - our kids love this one.

I believe "Amano Morio" is sung in Syriac. I don't know anything else about it, unfortunately.

The last song is Soubhan el Kalima (سبحان الكلمة).
