Morjes!

Welcome to my blog. I write about fitting in, sticking out, and missing the motherland as a serial foreigner.

Downton Abbey, THE END

I just went to take a look at my notes for this episode and all it said was "My, this episode is clipping along." I guess it went too fast for me to write anything else down! There certainly was a lot of business to take care of.

And I feel like this finale was appropriately Downton-y. It's what I would expect of this show's finale. I was worried there would be some final curveballs, but there weren't, not really.

I liked the drama of how Lord Merton and Isobel's story played out. I liked how Anna had her baby without anyone dying or being accused of murder. And a car shop set up by Tom and Henry seems legit.

Best of all, Edith got her happy ending! Now if only those people had had those conversations months ago, all the unpleasantness could have been avoided.

Daisy and Andy, whatever. I feel like this plot was a little bit William 2.0, and Daisy also really bugged me this season.

Did anyone else start out watching this show and writing "Downtown" every time instead of "Downton" for the title? And now, five years later, do you, like me, write "Downton" when you mean to write "downtown"? Despite this show's many flaws, especially in seasons four and five, it was great to hang out with these people for a few years. And ogle their gorgeous clothing.

In conclusion, I would like to share my favorite alternate-ending scenario, which I saw on one of the reddit discussion threads of the British finale:

That last shot of Downton in the snow should have panned out before flipping to reveal Gregson in a bloody, torn suit staggering to the house then cut to credits.

That would have been AMAZING. But I'm happy with what we got.
