Morjes!

Welcome to my blog. I write about fitting in, sticking out, and missing the motherland as a serial foreigner.

A care and a don't care

A care and a don't care

I care so much that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is performing at the inauguration today. I have heard all of the "celebration of the peaceful transition of power" arguments, and the "NOT performing would be a political statement" arguments, and I still care. So much. It hurts my heart that a choir that represents my church so prominently will be smiling on that stage in celebration of that man taking that office. It speaks directly to my "what will people think of me as a Mormon?" complex, cultivated from childhood, and what it says is not good. I resent the implication that Mormons support or endorse Trump in any way, and that is exactly what the visuals of MoTab on that platform will project today.

I do not care that The Piano Guys performed last night at the inauguration concert. They are their own selves and their name does not include "Mormon" and they do not represent my faith in any public capacity. Also, they posted a lengthy statement on their website. I read it. Story checks out. I love their music and I will continue to love their music and I hope they got paid a ton of money to perform last night.
