Morjes!

Welcome to my blog. I write about fitting in, sticking out, and missing the motherland as a serial foreigner.

Same advice, different situation

In Sharjah, we used to tell the girls that if they got lost or separated from us outside, they should find indoor AC first, and then seek help.

For the last week, with temperatures in the minus mid-20s (Celsius), I found myself worried about the girls going to and from school on their own. It's the kind of cold where if you stand still too long, you're desperately chilled almost before you realize it.

So I gave the girls the same advice I gave them in Sharjah: if you get lost outside, find indoor heating first, and then seek help.

Same advice, different situation.

Meanwhile, here is Sterling on the playground in -20C, eating frozen bread. He refuses to wear gloves (except at päiväkoti, where he has quickly learned how to conform). He takes turns tucking his hands inside the sleeves of his talvihaalari to keep them warm. Whatever works, Sterling!
