Morjes!

Welcome to my blog. I write about fitting in, sticking out, and missing the motherland as a serial foreigner.

Confirmation that David Sneddon is in North Korea?

Confirmation that David Sneddon is in North Korea?

Yesterday there was a news story out of Japan wherein a source claimed to know that David Sneddon, who disappeared in China 12 years ago, is in fact being held in North Korea as his family has believed all along. The source says he is married to a North Korean woman (this is common practice for captives in NK), has children with her, and is teaching English (just as his family had suspected).

Japanese intelligence on this subject should be superior to our own - they've been dealing with kidnappings by North Korea of Japanese citizens for decades.

This is huge news to David's family and friends, and it's been picked up by secondary sources in the US. Here is an article from the Deseret News (and here is the original Japanese article). I hope the information proves to be credible and does indeed result in a State Department investigation, as the DN mentions.

In situations like these, we offer our hopes and prayers and condolences to the family. But in David's case, there is more that you can do. Read this facebook post, and if you live in one of the states listed, consider following the instructions to send a letter to your representative. This task is time-sensitive since the bill will die if it does not get enough support. It is also a good time to bring this case to the attention of others thanks to the recent news about the case.
